The Marma points - Ayurvedic medicine
The Marma points have been identified in India in the ancient time and they are one of the basis of the Ayurvedic science.
They are vital points or energy centers on the body, they are usually located at the conjunction of blood, lymphatic and nervous systems, as well as joints and ligaments.
Each marma point has a specific function in the body and when they are stimulated, this function is activated or reinforced. For example, some marma points stimulate the circulation of the life force (Prana in sanskrit or Chi in Chinese) in the whole body, when others reinforce the blood or lymph circulation, the muscles, the bones or help removing toxins accumulated in a specific organ.
During an Abhyanga oil massage, the marma points are stimulated for the detoxification and revitalization of the body.
